Doctors

Dr Raj Mapara

GP Partner MBBS (London 1983) DCH DRCOG MRCGP

Male
I was born in Uganda, East Africa and arrived in the UK as a refugee in 1972 following the expulsion of Asians from Uganda. Following secondary education in Harrow, I attended Middlesex Hospital Medical School in London and graduated with double distinction in 1983. Subsequently, I trained at Ealing Hospital in West London and passed my MRCGP exam with honours.I became a partner at Fernville Surgery in 1987. I have been a GP trainer since 1998 and have trained over thirty GP Registrars. I also appraise other GPs in the locality as a part of the re-validation process. My areas of clinical interest include cardiovascular medicine, diabetes and prescribing. I perform shoulder and knee injections. My hobbies include sport, mainly golf, cricket and badminton. I have two grown up children, one is a trainee surgeon and other is studying law. My wife works locally as a prescribing pharmacist.

Dr Meeta Duggal

GP Partner MBBS (London 2004) BSc (Hons) DRCOG nMRCGP

Female
I have been a partner at Fernville since 2015, having trained here as a registrar. I have grown up with the Fernville values. I graduated from Bart’s and The Royal London Medical school in 2004 and following a predominately paediatric career pathway, decided to generalise. I continue my interest in child health, by undertaking a role as a Named Children’s Safeguarding GP for Hertfordshire and West Essex, where I monitor practice policies to identify and prevent child abuse in its many forms, as well as investigate serious case reviews for learning. I have a degree in Nutrition which helps me advise my patients holistically. I am also a senior GP registrar trainer with involvement overseeing junior doctors and Cambridge Medical students. My partners and I continue to develop the practice and ensure that we optimise patients’ health care by prioritising risk groups, patients with chronic illnesses and those who need urgent attention. The continuity of care with our patient lists facilitates a knowledge of the person with the illness rather than just the illness they have.Originally from Birmingham, I now live in Rickmansworth. I’m a busy mum to two humans and some pet parrots. My husband is a local dentist in Hemel Hempstead too.

Dr Sonal Mapara

GP Partner MBBS (London 2009) BSc (Hons) DRCOG DFSRH MRCGP

Female
I first walked through the doors of Fernville Surgery as an enthusiastic 15 year-old on work experience and I came away inspired. I went on to medical school at Imperial College London and subsequently worked in hospitals and GP surgeries around Oxfordshire and London. In October 2017, almost 18 years after I first set foot in Fernville Surgery, I was delighted to return as a salaried GP. My clinical interests include family planning, having completed the certification for contraceptive implants in 2014. I have a passion for improving cancer care and in Sept 2018 I took up role as a Macmillan GP. As a result, I devote one day per week to work with Macmillan and primary healthcare teams to make a recognisable improvement to cancer care across Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group. My role as a Macmillan GP spans the whole care pathway including work on early diagnosis as well as supporting people living with and beyond cancer. My time outside work is spent juggling motherhood and running a busy household. Spending time with family is of utmost importance to me.

Dr Frances Waite

General Practitioner MBChB (Leeds 2012) MRCGP DFSRH

Female
I graduated from Leeds Medical School with honours and moved to London after a couple of years to start GP training. I have worked across London and West Essex but am delighted to now find myself living in West London and working at Fernville. I enjoy the challenges of working in general practice and getting to know my patients well. I particularly enjoy family planning and am trained to fit coils and implants. I am originally from Manchester so spend a lot of time travelling up and down the West and East Coast train lines seeing friends and family. I also enjoy running (I try and attend Parkrun every Saturday morning when I am not working) and I attend a pilates class regularly.

Dr Gilly Ennals

General Practitioner MBChB (Liverpool 2010)

Female
Hailing from Sheffield, I have been providing care at Fernville for the past four years. Outside of work, I particularly cherish spending quality time with my young daughter, making the most of any time off together.
I have a love for food and enjoy exploring new restaurants and dining experiences. I’m also passionate about maintaining a healthy lifestyle and enjoy staying fit through various activities.

Dr Priya Shah

General Practitioner MBBS (London 2013) Bsc PGCE MRCGP

Female
I was brought up in a Buckinghamshire village, close to Hemel Hempstead and then went on to study Medicine at Imperial College Medical School.  After undertaking my Foundation Training at Barnet and then Lister Hospital, I started GP Training in 2016.  Since then, I have been affiliated with Fernville Surgery.  I began my role as a Salaried GP in November 2022.  Throughout my training a Doctor, I have enjoyed all the specialities but have always wanted to be a Generalist.
Working in General Practice is both a challenge and a joy.  It is a privilege to be able to guide a family through the ups and downs of life and the different stages/challenges they face.  In this early stage of my career, my focus is getting to know my patients and completing my Diploma in Medical Education so I can be involved with training future GPs.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and children, trying to keep on top of a cottage garden, playing cricket, sewing and lots of other arts and crafts.

Dr Joe Gerson

General Practitioner MBChB (Keele 2015)

Male
I qualified as a Doctor in 2015 from Keele University and later graduated with a Masters Degree in Sports Medicine from Barts and The London School of Medicine in 2017/18.
I have worked in many of the large Teaching Hospitals in London before settling in Hertfordshire to do my GP training and make it my home.

I started at Fernville as a GP Registrar and was lucky enough to stay on after completion of my training. I love the variety that being a General Practitioner provides and I always strive to manage patients holistically rather than just treating the presenting condition.

When I’m not working, I enjoy playing and watching all sports, especially golf and football and exploring the great outdoors of Hertfordshire.

Dr Ghada Al-Malky

General Practitioner MBChB (1993), MD, PhD, MRCGP

Female
I graduated from Alexandria University, Egypt then specialised in Audio-Vestibular Medicine. I moved to the UK in 2000 working in the NHS in Wales for the first 4 years. I then moved to London and joined Academia at UCL where I completed my PhD and worked as an Associate Professor and Head of Education at the Ear Institute. In 2019 I decided to change careers so I resigned from the university and re-trained to become a GP. I joined Fernville Surgery as a trainee and was lucky enough to join this brilliant team as a Salaried GP after completing my training. I am genuinely interested in people and ways to improve their health and wellbeing in my role as GP. I am a proud wife of a UCLH ENT Consultant and mother of two wonderful grown-up children.
